When Michon from Homeroom Designs approached me to take some headshots of her son, (and Business Partner) Austen, I invited her to do a few extra shots of both and make it a light version of a branding session. We ventured down to Caddo Trail in Frisco and took advantage of the shaded areas. And there are so many amazing spots for pictures, on the trail and its bridges and by the creek. (sidenote: if you’ve never walked that 1.5-mile trail you absolutely should – it’s beautiful!)
Now, doing a branding session, even if it’s a mini-session, in triple digits is usually not anyone’s idea of fun. But I had such a great time with Austen and Michon that the temperature didn’t even matter. It also helped that we had a stack of napkins with us to mop our brows. Before we knew it we had spent an hour talking, laughing, sweating, and, of course, taking pictures. I couldn’t imagine spending an hour in this heat with anyone else and laughing this much. Kudos also to my daughter Madison, who volunteered to come along and take behind-the-scenes videos.
Michon and Austen from Homeroom Designs are amazing, creative, and loving people. Not to mention that Michon’s laugh and smile light up a room. So if you have a kids or young adults space (or any other area of your house) that could use a glam-up: Reach out to them. I promise you won’t regret it! Plus: If the Homeroom Design team can make a branding session in 110-degree weather enjoyable, imagine how delightful it will be to spend time with them in an air-conditioned house.
One thing I still need to confess: Those of you who have met me in person know I’m by no means the stereotypical tall, blond, German woman. Whether I’m blond, brunette, or bald, doesn’t make a difference when taking pictures. But being 5’3″ when doing a session with someone who stands 6 feet tall can make a huge difference. That’s where my short, trusty friend and special assistant comes into play to help me be taller. And before you all get upset that I use my daughter to step on… No!!! I would never do that! Threaten her with it… maybe… but I wouldn’t stoop that low (pun intended)! So meet Julio (the stool-io):
